The classic focus block

Twenty-five minutes is the traditional length of one Pomodoro: long enough to get properly stuck into a task and short enough that you can keep your attention the whole way. Many people use it for study, writing, coding, admin or any job they've been putting off.

Pick one task, close what you don't need, press start and work until the alarm. Then take a short break before the next one.

Want the breaks handled for you?

This page runs a single 25 minute block. If you'd like the timer to switch between focus and breaks automatically, with a longer break after four rounds, use the Pomodoro timer. For longer deep-work sessions try the 50 minute timer.

Doing several sessions in a row? Tick Repeat and a fresh 25 minutes starts each time the alarm sounds, or use the full Pomodoro timer to slot in breaks automatically. Copy link gives you an address with the time built in to share with a study group.

Frequently asked questions

Why 25 minutes?

It's the standard Pomodoro length. It's long enough to make progress and short enough to stay focused and avoid burnout.

What should I do in the break?

Stand up, stretch, drink some water or look out a window. Try to stay away from your inbox and social media.

Will it keep running if I switch tabs or lock my screen?

Yes. The timer works from your device clock, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and the tab title shows the time left. If your phone locks, the countdown carries on, but some phones delay sound until you unlock, so keep the screen on for anything important.
