A simple online timer that just works

The Online Timer is a free countdown timer for study, work, cooking, classrooms and workouts. Tap a preset, type your own time, or grab the ring and drag it round to set the minutes. Each full lap of the dial adds an hour, so you can set anything up to two hours in one smooth movement.

Press start and the pendulum begins to swing. The tab title shows the time left, so you can keep working in another tab and glance up when you need to. When the time is up you'll hear a soft alarm, and the digits pulse so you notice even with the sound off.

Made to be quick

There are no accounts, pop-ups or installs. The whole page is small and loads fast, it works on phones, tablets, laptops and classroom projectors, and it follows your device's light or dark setting. Your sound and theme choices are remembered on your own device only.

Need something more specific? Try the Pomodoro timer for focused work sessions, the interval timer for training, the stopwatch with laps, or a countdown to a date. Popular quick picks include the 2 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute and 1 hour timers.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Online Timer free?

Yes. It's free to use with no account. The site is supported by a small number of ads, kept away from the timer itself.

How do I set a custom time?

Drag the ring around the dial, use the arrow keys when the dial is focused, or type minutes and seconds into the Custom boxes under the controls and press Set.

Why can't I hear the alarm?

Check the bell button is on and your device isn't muted. Browsers only allow sound after you've interacted with the page, which pressing Start does.

Can I use it full screen?

Yes. Press the full screen button or the F key for big, easy-to-read digits.

Can I share a timer or make it repeat?

Yes. Copy link makes a web address with your time built in, such as ?t=12m30s, so it opens ready to go. Tick Repeat and the timer starts again by itself each time it finishes.
